The Tarsus Group, our history in words
and images

An early image from down-town Örnsköldsvik
The 1940's
This family owned company was founded in 1948 by Gunnar Sjöblom (the
man below wearing a hat. The image is from 1958).

Gunnar was a skilled inventor and constructor. Instead of working as
a leader and constructor for Hägglunds, a large company in
Örnsköldsvik he started his own business in his cellar. In the
beginning the company name was Sjömek. The company started out doing
R&D projects for Hägglunds. Soon his sons Lennart and Gösta
joined. Sjömek grew and became Sjöblom & Söner AB.

Gunnar in his factory
Gunnar's third son Bernt had cancer and they often visited him at
the hospital in Örnsköldsvik. During the visits to the hospital,
Gunnar, Lennart and Gösta realized the need for new medical products
and that they where capable of constructing products that would help
the hospital professionals to ease their work. In 1958 they started
to design and manufacture medical equipment and furniture.

The 1970´s
The business was growing and Sjöbloms delivered their products to
the leading resellers of medical equipment to the Swedish Health
care sector. All R&D where done in close relationship with medical
professionals and always tested at different hospitals. This has
been a tradition in the company since then.
The 1980's
1984 was the year when Sjöbloms Sjukvårdsutrustning AB, (Sjöbloms
Medical equipment AB) became the company's Swedish name. The same
year Sjöbloms became a supplier of medical furniture and equipment
with its own sell staff, selling directly to the Swedish market.
Skilled personnel both in R&D and manufacturing helped the company
to grow and today their products can be found in every Swedish
hospital and health care centres.

Lennart, Karl-Gunnar and Gösta Sjöblom
Lennart's son Olow started his own business 1989 called Tarsus
Products AB. Being a masseur he constructed his own table and soon a
couple of national athletic teams started to use the tables. The
company profile was to design, manufacture state of the art portable
massage tables. Today the company is one of the leading companies in
this area and has increased its products to a large assortment of
portable therapy tables and electric physiotherapy tables.
